2022 USA CURLING ICE MAKING SUMMIT
On June 3-5, 2022, USA Curling will be hosting the inaugural Ice Making Summit at Tee Line of Nashville.
Led by USA Curling Head Ice Technician, Shawn Olesen, the weekend will be a great mix of practical, hands-on ice making and off-ice educational sessions.
The summit will kick off on Friday, June 3rd at 7:00pm with networking, discussion, and dinner, followed by a flood that will occur at the conclusion of on-ice activity.
On Saturday morning, post-flood scraping and pebbling will be reviewed an done in a hands-on session in time for the ice to be prepared for the scheduled curling at Tee Line beginning at 12:30pm.
Saturday afternoon will be filled with off-ice sessions, including opportunities for best practice discussions.
The summit will return on Sunday morning for on-ice work and the weekend will conclude at 1:00pm on Sunday with a final review Q&A session.
Whether it be on or off-ice, USA Curling’s top ice tech will be covering the following for all who are looking to learn or enhance their ice-making abilities and bring their knowledge back to their local clubs or championship events:
Installation. The keys to getting it right.
Flooding. Review of the work done at Tee Line and the specific challenges of different facilities.
Pebbling/Scraping. Elements, techniques, etc.
Stone Maintenance. Texturing, record-keeping, and proper care.
Equipment Maintenance. Keeping the tools of the trade at peak efficiency.
Building Systems and Controls. Optimal setups, and how to work with the situation you have at your home club.
Championship ice. The challenges and the rewards.
