The American duo of Chris Plys and Vicky Persinger are off to a perfect start after day one at the Olympic Qualification Event 2022.

Team USA opened round robin play with an 8-6 victory over Japan.

In their second game of day one, Team USA faced Estonia.

Persinger/Plys got off to a hot start, stealing four in the first end, but Estonia climbed back and evened the score after getting two with hammer in the second end, and then stealing two more points in the third end.

In the fourth end, USA regained the lead after Vicky Persinger made a lightweight hit on Estonia’s counter, adding three points to the board.

Team USA held a 7-4 lead at the close of the first half of the game.

In the fifth end, Team USA sat two in the four-foot surrounded by a handful of Estonian stones.

Estonia attempted a double takeout with their hammer, but unable to catch enough curl, wicked off a stone in the top of the house, adding two more points to Team USA’s score and extending the lead to 9-4.

The Estonians generated a score of two with their power play in the sixth end, but Chris Plys and Vicky Persinger of Team USA were quick to return the favor, scoring two with their power play in the seventh end and closing the game with an 11-6 victory.

“We’re glad to get out of that one with a win,” said Vicky Persinger. “The game was a little closer that what the scoreboard showed for a while.”

The victory over Estonia moved Team USA to a perfect 2-0 record after day one of competition.

“We’re happy to come out with a two-win day,” added Persinger.
