DWYER/EMT WIN WHEELCHAIR MIXED DOUBLES NATIONALS

[EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, January 13, 2025]  The USA Curling Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Nationals will have some new names on it, as the team of Laura Dwyer and Steve Emt defeated defending champions Oyuna Uranchimeg and Matt Thums 9-3 in Sunday’s championship game at the Windy City Curling Club in Villa Park, IL.

Dwyer and Emt earned a bye to the final by finishing in the top spot at the end of round-robin play. In the semi-final, Uranchimeg/Thums defeated the Colorado-based team of Pam Wilson and Dan Rose by a score fo 6-3. Wilson and Rose ha finished round-robin play in second place with a 4-1 record.

In the championship game, Dwyer/Emt jumped out early by scoring five in the opening end. Uranchimeg/Thums responded with two in the second end, but could not produce a big end to reduce the gap, and Dwyer/Emt cruised to a 9-3 victory.

Dwyer and Emt will now represent the United States at the 2025 World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Stevenston, Scotland, from March 10-16. This championship will follow the World Wheelchair Curling Championship, with four-person play, which runs from March 1-8 in Stevenston.

“Windy City knocked it out of the park for us,” noted USA Curling National Wheelchair Team Coach Pete Annis. “We truly appreciate how well they treated the teams and the playing conditions. We hope to collaborate on wheelchair curling events again.”
