[EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, February 28, 2025] — The 2025 World Wheelchair Curling Championship in Stevenston, Scotland, UK, kicks off on Saturday, March 1st, with the opening session at 2:30 PM GMT. Team USA will hit the ice in the second session at 7:30 PM GMT in a feature match against Canada.
The American team includes Matt Thums, Shawn Sadowski, Steve Emt, Oyuna Uranchimeg, and Laura Dwyer. This is the same group that captured gold at the World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship this past November in Finland, qualifying Team USA for the World Championship.
The World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2025 will feature 12 teams who have qualified from the previous year’s championship or, like the Americans, through the World Wheelchair-B Curling Championship in 2024. The final qualification points for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games will be determined at this event.
The championship will run from March 1-8, and will be followed by the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championship from March 11-16. In the Mixed Doubles, also in Stevenston, Team USA will be represented by the team of Emt and Dwyer.
Wheelchair Program National Director Pete Annis noted, “The team has been working hard, and our performance at the World Bs was encouraging. We’re fired up and looking forward to building on those results in Scotland.”
More information about the championship, including live scores, results, streaming and the full schedule, is available here.
