2022 USA CURLING 5-AND-UNDER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS
Curlers with five years or less of curling experience have even more to look forward to this season.
The first official USA Curling Five-and-Under National Championship (5U) will be held at the new Southern California Curling Center in Los Angeles on May 12-15, 2022.
The field at this event will consist of 24 teams. Teams can be made up of any combination of men and women, and the 24 teams in the field will be determined in tiers, as follows:
TIER ONE
A/First Event Winners in the official 2021-22 5U Qualifier Bonspiels plus one team from the club hosting the National Championship. The host of the Championship will determine how they select their representative.
TIER TWO
A/First Event Winners in 5U bonspiels held between January 1, 2020 and November 1, 2021. These bonspiels will be ranked according to number of entries. Winners of bonspiels with the highest number of entries will receive the first offers of berths in the 2022 5-and-Under Nationals Championship.
TIER THREE
A/First Event Runners-Up in 2021-22 Qualifier bonspiels. Bonspiels will be ranked according to number of entries. Runners-up in bonspiels with the highest number of entries are offered spots in Nationals first.
FIVE-AND-UNDER COMPETITOR ELIGIBILITY
All players on a team competing the Five-and-Under National Championship must have five years of less or curling experience. Ten games or more during a calendar year is considered one year of curling experience. Any play in 2020 does not count as a year of experience.
USA Curling is relying on bonspiel organizers to ensure that players meet eligibility requirements with the expectation that the Spirit of Curling will prevail.
Teams must have 3 of 4 or 4 of 5 players from the lineup that won the event that qualified the team for the 5-and-Under National Championship.
All team members need to belong to a USA Curling member club.
QUALIFIER BONSPIELS
The following bonspiels are the recognized USA Curling 5-and-Under National Championship Qualifier Bonspiels for 2021-22. The winners of these events will be classified as Tier One entries and earn a direct berth in the 2022 5-and-Under National Championship.
