U.S. WOMEN MOVE TO 3-1 RECORD
The U.S. women’s curling team (Tabitha Peterson, Nina Roth, Becca Hamilton, Tara Peterson, and Aileen Geving) kicked off round robin play at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games with assertion.
"I think each game we're learning what the ice is doing and getting back in the groove of team communicating and in psych,” Tabitha Peterson said. “So, we're trying to get back on the horse right away with our quick communication to make sure we're on the same page, which helps us put the long flight behind us in making good decisions."
The lengthy commute to Beijing hasn’t proven to be a factor in Team USA’s performance thus far.
The Team, skipped by Tabitha Peterson, first picked up a win in the tournament’s opener against ROC before defeating Denmark and then China, propelling the United States to the top of the standings tied only with Switzerland.
It was in game four on Saturday evening that Team USA met its match in Great Britain.
After scoring two with hammer in the first end, Great Britain proceeded to steal another two points in the second end to take a four-point lead.
The Americans narrowed the deficit, trailing only by one point after six ends, before Great Britain put up another deuce, re-extending their lead.
"Eve's team played fantastic. They figured out the ice quicker and we were just chasing the whole time,” said Tara Peterson after Team USA fell 10-5 against Great Britain. “We just need to play a little bit better. We're still feeling good. We just have to learn from our mistakes in that game. We're in a great position and still feeling good."
Despite the frustrating loss, the Team is already planning to get to work in the next matchup.
"We definitely didn't have our strongest game out there,” said Tara Peterson. “It's something we have to forget about, move on and come out swinging tomorrow."
Team USA will face Sweden in draw five of the women’s round robin at 12:05am (CST) on Feb. 13th.
