CLUB NATIONALS SET TO GET UNDERWAY IN WAUSAU
Curlers from across the country will meet at the Wausau Curling Center in Wausau, WI, as the USA Curling Club National Curling Championships are set to run from March 16-19th.
The Wausau facility is no stranger to national championships, notably hosting both the Mixed Doubles and the Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships in 2021 in a bio-secured bubble due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wausau will once again welcome curlers to a national championship, this time with fans in attendance.
“The Wausau Curling Center has been a gracious host to us for some time,” remarked USA Curling Interim CEO Dean Gemmell. “Being able to use their facility to hold the 2021 National Championships was crucial for the Olympic qualifying process, and we’re excited to now bring this important championship to this top-tier venue.”
The 2023 edition of Club Nationals features a diverse group of curlers who have enjoyed success in many different championships, including this one. Two-time Olympian Ann Swisshelm headlines the Women’s field, returning the majority of her Detroit-based rink that captured the 2020 Club National Championship. The defending champions, Team Hampton of the Madison Curling Club, also return to the Nationals, looking to hoist the championship trophy for a second straight year, this time in their home state.
The 2020 Club National Champions will also be competing on the Men’s side, as Elliot Mansell and his Denver-based team seek to win their second championship in the past four years. Long-time national championship competitors Mike Farbelow and Tim Solin will attempt to become two-time Club National champions as well, having won the event in 2007.
Teams in both the Men’s and Women’s championships will be split into two pools of six, and play a round robin within their pool. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the playoffs.
Wausau and USA Curling have partnered to provide streaming through Wausau Area Access Media. Feature games will be available on their YouTube channel. Spectators can purchase tickets at the door—$5 per day, $15 event pass, discounted for Seniors and free for children under 10. Team lineups, draw schedule, and scores are available here.
