QUALIFIER BONSPIELS FOR FIVE-AND-UNDER NATIONALS ANNOUNCED

[EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, August 22, 2024] — USA Curling has selected the 23 Five-and-Under Bonspiels (events for curlers over the age of 21 who have been actively participating in the sport for five years or less) that will serve as qualifier events for the 2025 Five-and-Under Nationals, scheduled for April 30-May 4, 2025, at the Saint Paul Curling Club in Saint Paul, MN.
There were 30 applications to be qualifier events. The field at the Five-and-Under Nationals, an Open format event, features 24 teams—23 berths will be awarded through the bonspiel qualifiers and the host club also receives an entry.
“The growing popularity of the Five-and-Under Nationals has fueled more demand among bonspiels to be qualifiers,” noted USA Curling CEO Dean Gemmell. “It definitely falls into the category of a good problem to have, but we realize some events and Member Clubs will be disappointed they are not included. We’ll review our selections every year, and will work to rotate in different events each season.”
Factors in the final selection of events include: event size, established history, nationwide geographic distribution of qualifier events.
“Last season, 5U Nationals qualifier bonspiels had 567 entries,” Gemmell added. “We are pleased to help grow the 5U bonspiel ecosystem, but also believe there is room for all kinds of these events each year, whether they are qualifiers are not. The growth among adults who are new to the sport has been a great success story, and clubs across the country deliver a ton of credit for bringing additional people into our game.”
The 2025 Five-and-Under Nationals will be at the Saint Paul Curling Club in Saint Paul, MN, from April 30-May 4. More information about the path to this championship and others can be found in Qualifying Procedures on the USA Curling website.
