ATHLETE HEALTH & SAFETY WORKING GROUP ANNOUNCED
November 18, 2022.
To change its SafeSport reporting process, review past handling of claims, and create a policy for internal review of reports when SafeSport does not claim jurisdiction, a USA Curling Athlete Health & Safety Working Group has been formed.
Working Group members include Athletes Advisory Council Chair Alex Agre, USA Curling Interim CEO Dean Gemmell, Jen Nguyen, Katie Rhyme, Bryan Pittard, Stephanie Senneker, and Michael Shalhoub. Craig Perry, Vice President of the US Council for Athletes’ Health, will serve as an advisor to the group, along with representatives from SafeSport.
“While USA Curling had a perfect score on its 2022 SafeSport Administrative Audit, we will remain vigilant on the issues of athlete safety and well-being,” Gemmell noted. “At USA Curling, we believe there’s nothing we can’t work to improve, and this Working Group will come together to ensure we are following practices and have the right processes in place.”
The Athlete Health & Safety Working Group will begin meeting next week.
USA Curling is sponsored by Columbia Sportswear, Toyota, Twin Cities Orthopedics, Training HAUS, Brakebush, ISS (Ice, Sports & Solar), and Sitrin, and is partnered with IHG, Rock Solid Productions Inc., Laurie Artiss Ltd. – The Pin People.
