ICE BREAKERS UNCONSCIOUS BIAS TRAINING

Ice Breakers, a USA Curling DEI program focused on increasing representation in curling at the local level, invites members of USA Curling member clubs to join the upcoming virtual Unconscious Bias Training.

Developed by Ice Breakers co-founder Deb Martin, the Unconscious Bias Training is intended to raise the collective consciousness and facilitate a more confident, intentional, inclusive outreach to underrepresented communities—specifically BIPOC communities—in the sport of curling.

Register to attend one of the 60-minute coaching sessions scheduled for Sunday, October 17th at 4:00PM EDT, or Thursday, October 28th, at 9:00PM EDT.

TOPICS COVERED:

• Basic terminology and types of unconscious bias.
• How Unconscious Bias shows up in everyday interactions and impacts decisions, discussions, actions, and reactions.
• How Unconscious Bias can undermine the culture of a club, organization, or group.
• Real-world examples and scenarios designed to increase awareness and build confidence when interacting within diverse groups.
• Discussion around how to practice the Ice Breakers mission in the moments that matter.
• The connection between representation and recruitment.
• The connections between Inclusion, Belonging, and Retention.

About Coach Deb Martin:

Deb has been curling out of the Plainfield Curling Club in New Jersey since 2010. As a lifelong athlete, her passion for curling centers around both the incredible on-ice competition and the dedicated, unique community that is built around the sport throughout the world.

A certified Performance Coach and former FitPro, Deb has been facilitating commercial training and development as an independent consultant since 2013.

As one of the two founders of Ice Breakers, Deb is donating her time to develop and deliver this Unconscious Bias training from a curler-informed perspective. The objective is to help prepare invested allies within our curling community for the culturally competent, respectful, and courageous conversations about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that we must continue to have to drive meaningful, sustained change.
