JANUARY 2022 COMPETITION UPDATE
Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, USA Curling has made the difficult decision to delay or cancel any sanctioned competition scheduled for January 2022.
USA Curling is currently not moving forward with the 2022 Men’s and Women’s National Championships scheduled for Jan. 2-9, 2022, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The first USA Curling Junior Bonspiel Series event scheduled for Jan. 2-3, 2022, at the Kettle Moraine Curling Club has been canceled.
The 2022 Wheelchair Mixed Doubles National Championship scheduled for Jan. 12-14, 2022, at the Wausau Curling Club is currently postponed with a date and location to be determined.
The 2022 Wheelchair National Team Camp and corresponding media day scheduled for Jan. 15-19, 2022, at the Sentry Curling Center home of the Stevens Point Curling Club is currently postponed with a date and location to be determined.
The 2022 Senior Women’s National Championship scheduled for Jan. 28-30, 2022, at the Bowling Green Curling Club is currently postponed with a date to be determined.
“Part of our mission is creating as many events and opportunities as possible for athletes to pursue competitive success,” said USA Curling CEO Jeff Plush. “Nothing is more upsetting than having to cancel events that impact the tireless efforts of athletes, volunteers, staff, and host committees. However, we have to trust the medical professionals as health and safety take priority to plan for better days ahead. “
USA Curling remains committed to working with medical personnel to evaluate the USA Curling sanctioned competition calendar on a rolling 30-day basis as well as working internally to determine the feasibility of postponing events while collaborating with host committees and the Athletes’ Advisory Council to assess qualification procedures.
