Two World Championships are part of the record amassed by Bob Nichols. In 1974 he played third for Bud Somerville when they won in Bern, Switzerland, and he skipped the 1978 team that captured the title in Winnipeg.

In 1981 his team was runner-up in the World Championship in London, Ontario, and he represented the United States in the Olympics in 1988. He won the Wisconsin State Men’s Championship eight times and the U.S. Championship three times.

Nichols is a corporate accountant and has been active in the Superior Curling Club. Several years ago, he and Bud Somerville traveled across Wisconsin and other states giving instructional clinics to curlers.

The nomination by the Wisconsin State Curling Association states:

Bob is an intense competitor, with a reputation for being one of the finest shot makers ever in curling. When the game is on the line, he consistently makes the big shot. His demeanor on the ice is quietly professional and he exemplifies good sportsmanship. Bob Nichols has been a great credit to United States Curling.”
