Norman P. Rickards
A curler for 43 years, Rickards served as president of the U.S. Curling Association and was a director of that organization for 14 years. He developed, on a national basis, the Century-Booster-Patron Pin program that has become a major source of income for the USCA. A director of the American Curling History Museum of 20 years, he served as its president for 10 years. He also was an officer and director of the American Curling Foundation for 10 years, and when the two groups merged, he served as president from 1985-89 and then was the chairman of the Board until his death in December 1990.
Rickards was a founder and the first president of the Illinois State Curling Federation in 1986 and developed its program for college students. He later became executive director. When the Ladies World Curling Championship was held in Lake Forest, IL, in 1987, Rickards was vice-chairman. After four years as a director of the Illinois Curling Association he was selected as its executive director in 1982. Rickards was a member of the Skokie and Chicago Curling Clubs and had served as president of both.
