TEAM USA 5-0 AT MIXED DOUBLES OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION EVENT
At the end of day three of the Mixed Doubles Olympic Qualifying Event, Team USA (Vicky Persinger and Chris Plys) remains undefeated with a 5-0 record.
In the first matchup of the day against Latvia, Persinger/Plys established an impressive 7-1 lead at the close of the first half.
Latvia rebounded with a deuce in the sixth end before the United States scored a single and stole two more.
Latvia conceded after the seventh end, making the final score 10-3 and securing Team USA’s fourth victory of the event.
“We’re feeling good, starting to get a bit more of a hang on what’s going on out there,” said Chris Plys following Team USA’s victory against Latvia. “The jet lag has worn off which is nice. We know we’ve got two more games in the round robin so hopefully we can keep that going and hopefully get the bye to the semi-final.”
Team USA faced New Zealand in Tuesday’s second game. After surrendering a steal of one to open the game, the U.S. bounced back with a score of five.
The United States went on to win the game against New Zealand 9-3 after six ends of play.
Tomorrow, Team USA will face Korea at 8:30am (ET) in the final round robin game. The matchup against Korea will determined the one-seed from Pool B, as both the United States and Korea sit tied with unblemished records.
The winner of tomorrow’s matchup, along with the winner of Pool A, will receive a bye into the “finals” and the second and third ranked teams in each group will play in qualification games (A2 vs B3 and B2 vs A3).
The winners of the qualification games will then play the group winners, where the winners of those game will earn their country a berth to the 2022 Olympic Games.
