[EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, April 24, 2025] — The United States will be represented at the 2025 World Senior Curling Championships at Willie O’Ree Place in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, by two teams with impressive resumes at this international event.
In 2024, Team Farbelow (Mike Farbelow, Rich Ruohonen, Bill Stopera, Darren Lehto) just missed out on gold, losing on last shot in the final when Canadian skip Paul Flemming made a long angle runback. After another solid run to victory at the 2025 USA Curling Senior Nationals in Traverse City, Farbelow and his teammates are looking to move one spot higher on the podium and claim gold at this year’s championship.
On the women’s side, Team Smith (Margie Smith, Norma O’Leary, Shelly Kinney, Shelly Kosal) is also familiar with silver medal finishes—teams skipped by Smith had silver medal finishes in 2018 and 2022. O’Leary also skipped a team to a bronze medal at this championship in 2015.
The World Senior Championship was first contested in 2002—the United States has won the Men’s event three times, but is still looking for its first gold medal in Women’s. This is an open entry event, and features a large field of teams from around the globe competing in multiple groups. The championship runs from April 26th through May 3rd, and is held concurrently with the World Mixed Doubles Championship. Scores, schedules, and results can be found on the World Curling Events page.
