INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP TIERS

Which USA Curling Individual Membership is right for you?

With the amendments to the USA Curling bylaws ratified at the Members’ Meeting on October 13th, USA Curling will adopt a new membership model for the 2023-24 curling season.

One of the most significant changes? The introduction of Individual Membership tiers.

To ensure that curlers can have a membership that reflects their involvement in the sport and our organization, the new model provides five different tiers. It’s a clear departure from the previous model that offered a single $34 option to all members of USA Curling.

Our community participates in this great sport in many different ways—once-a-week recreational players, curlers who may not play regularly but can be accurately described as super fans, committed sport leaders who want to help grow curling across the country, players who build their season around national championship aspirations, and participants who have been rewarded by the sport and want to contribute to its success in a significant way.

Of course, there are all kinds of additional examples. Just think about the members of your home club—one of the greatest things about curling is that everyone can enjoy it in a way that is personal and unique.

Before we get into the differences between each individual membership, let’s start with what’s included in every tier of USA Curling membership:

  • Participant insurance

  • Member ID

  • Access to Our House, the USA Curling content platform

  • Clinic and course eligibility

  • Discounts from USA Curling Partners

  • Voting rights at the annual Members’ Meeting

  • Free SafeSport training and certification (for members 18 and older)

Next, how do you decide which membership tier is right for you? Here’s a primer.

YOUTH, $20. If you’re a curler under the age of 18 and just getting started in our sport, this is the entry point into a lifetime of participation. It’s designed to be our most affordable option to get young players involved and connected to the national organization. As you progress and aspire to compete at national championships, you can easily upgrade your membership to the Competitor level. You’ll also receive $15 off your first purchase of $100 or more in our online store.

BASIC, $25. In addition to the benefits mentioned previously, you’ll enjoy voting rights at the annual Members’ Meeting, get free SafeSport training and certification, and be eligible to participate in USA Curling clinics and course. You’ll also get $20 off your first purchase of $100 or more in our online store, and a complimentary bag tag. The Basic membership reflects your desire to support the game you love and help the national organization deliver services and programming to both emerging and established Member Clubs.

PREMIUM, $50. For people who want to take their passion for curling and step it up a bit, the Premium membership is a great option. It includes $10 off Certification courses, discounts on tickets to National Championships, a bag tag, $25 off your first purchase of $100 or more in our online store and 10% off merchandise purchased at events.

COMPETITOR OR COACH, $100. If you love to compete and have national championship aspirations, as either a player or a coach, this is your membership. With it, you are eligible to participate in all USA Curling national championships (Club Nationals and Arena Club Nationals will still require participants to be dues-paying, league-playing members of a USA Curling Member Club), regional playdowns, and qualifying events for Men’s and Women’s Nationals, and Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s Nationals. You’ll only need a single Competitor membership to be eligible to compete in all of these events.

Competitors will also receive a bag tag and $30 off your first purchase of $100 or more from our online store.

Finally, some other news for Competitors—we are reducing the fees that USA Curling previously charged for regional playdown events the overall individual cost to compete for a berth in Club Nationals, Mixed Fours Nationals, U18 Nationals, and Arena Club Nationals will decrease.

If you have a Competitor membership you can add Coach benefits by completing the required the first level of our new Coach certification training. We are also providing a complimentary background screen (U.S. only) for coaches that complete the certification process.

GOLD, $500. You have a deep love of the sport and the means to support it generously. Gold is the highest level of membership. Not only does it reflect your belief in the value our game offers, it unlocks a collection of benefits including priority seating at Men’s & Women’s and Mixed Doubles Nationals, access to an on-ice experience at Men’s & Women’s Nationals, an exclusive Gold member package, and $50 off your first purchase of $100 or more from our online store. Of course, Gold members also receive the benefits of every other level of membership, including National Championship eligibility.

Is participant insurance still included?

Yes.  Even with the reduced cost of the Basic membership, every USA Curling Individual Member receives Participant Insurance. It’s an additional level of protection that will help defray expenses that occur as the result of an injury while curling. Obviously, we want to help make sure every curling experience is as safe as possible, but we recognize that injuries can occur and this coverage provide an additional level of security.

How do you register for each different membership?

There are two paths, and it will depend partly upon the decision your home club makes.

If your home club is a Member Club, they can elect to collect your USA Curling dues like they have in the past and incorporate them into your club membership. If the club submits an USA Curling Individual Membership roster with their Member Club fees, their Member Club fees will be also be reduced by $5 for each Individual USA Curling member.

Many clubs have indicated this approach is their preference. Member Clubs can certainly give their membership the option to choose any of the Individual Membership tiers, but we expect that many will offer the Basic or Youth memberships only. It’s entirely their choice, but with amended bylaws approved at the Members’ Meeting and the new model now operational, we encourage Member Clubs to communicate their plans as soon as possible.

If you have a Basic membership through your Member Club, upgrading to a different level—Premium, Competitor/Coach, Gold—can be done quickly and easily through your MyUSACurling profile. Log in, choose the upgrade you want, and you’ll pay the difference between that membership and the Basic level.  Just remember that your profile in MyUSACurling will only reflect your membership status once your Member Club submits their roster and payment.

Of course, you can also purchase any Individual membership directly through the MyUSACurling platform. If you do, inform your Member Club. We’ll be able to sort it out no matter what, but letting your club know will help ensure you don’t pay for a USA Curling membership twice.

Finally, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We would be naive to expect zero hiccups in Year One, but rest assured that we will work to resolve issues as quickly as possible. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to memberservices@usacurling.org or contact Lauren Rich directly. Everyone at USA Curling is here to help make the process as seamless as possible.

We’re excited about these changes and believe it will help deliver the membership experience everyone deserves.
